LOCAL golfer Victor Joseph returned 277 net to win the 2016 Rwanda Open Golf tournament held at the 9-hole Kigali golf course in Nyarutarama. Besides the main trophy, was rewarded with an assortment of prizes – microwave, movit Hamper, DSTV decoder, small fridge and a Rwand
After the victory, Victor expressed his excitement, taking the opportunity to acknowledge individual sponsors as well as tournament sponsors.
He said: “I am really excited to come out the winner in this particularly tough competition. Hopefully, I will come back next year to defend my title.”
Other top performers:
Rwanda’s Emmanuel Rutayisire finished in second place with 291 Net while Emmanuel Nkurunziza, with 292 Net, came in third position in the handicap 0-9 category.
Francois Habimana won the handicap 10-15 category ahead of Ugandan Adolf Muhumuza. Uganda’s Moses Masiiko won the award for the longest drive and the nearest to the pin (10th hole) side bet.
Philip Sheetal retained her title in the women’s category; she walked away with a trophy in addition to a return air ticket, courtesy of RwandAir and Movit Hamper. Irene Nakalembe (UG) had a least score in the ladies senior category winning a trophy and prize of two nights at Kivu Serena Hotel while another Ugandan, Asiimwe Brigitte was awarded for the nearest to the pin on the 17th hole.
A moment of silence was observed in memory of former Rwanda Golf Club president, Bertin Makuza who past on earlier in November. He had served for two years between 1996-1998.
